INTRODUCTORY NOTE TO THE TABULATED DATA BELOW

        The chart below plots out the order of the names of the Surah (loosely `chapter') titles of the Qayyūm al-asmā' (lit. `Self-Subsisting of the [Divine] Names' = QA) of the Bab (1819-1850 CE) as given by their Persian author. This along with the transliteration and English translation (s) with notice of occasional surah title variants in adjacent columns. An equals sign followed by Q (= Q.__) indicates a QA title identical to that of a qur'ānic surah title along with its number, e.g. = Q.67, the same name as Qur'ān Surah 67, Surat al-Mulk. If the QA name of the Sura utilizes Qur'anic vocabulary a letter Q. is placed in the lower left-hand corner with the number of times indicated (Q. x 6 = six times). If the QA Surah title is non-qur'anic a white asterisk (*) will be placed in the lower left hand corner. If the QA surah title draws on qur'anic vocabulary but most likely has a developed post-qur'anic sense `Q. / * ' will be placed in the lower left-hand corner. The sign [Q.] (lower left corner) indicates that the exact QA Surah title is not an item of qur'anic vocabulary but that other derivatives from the same Arabic root are found in the Qur'an. The phrase `In QA X [= Surah Number] x XX [number of occurrences] indicates whether and how frequently the Arabic name of the QA Surah title occurs within the text of that specific QA Surah . e.g. `In QA 1 x13' = mulk occurs 13 times in QA1. If the word indicating the Surah Name or Title is absent in the Surah of the QA its described a zero is placed after the Surah Number in the lower left corner. e. g. QA 19:0 = the word   (- the Surah title) is absent in QA19. When this is followed by [x -- ] the number inside inside indicates how many times this word (the Surah title) occurs throughout all 111 Surahs of the QA.

        Alternative Surah titles, sometimes alternative readings or misreadings of mss. texts, are found in select QA and related mss texts (such as the Kitab al-Fihrist) and will be to some extent be set down in the columns to the left of the first column, the Mss. source being indicated at the top (e.g. E. G. Browne, Coll. mss. F11). Occasional variants will be commented upon in critical endnotes below.

QA. 3 S. al-īmān is named S. al-mubāhala ("mutual execration") in some mss. -- check.

QA.11 in X mss. is probably wrongly named S. al-tayr ("The Bird"). This reading perhaps resulted through the omission of initial letter sin and the adding the long 'i' vowel to make sense of the remaining two letters t and r. While siṭr ("the [alphabetical] line) is a common motif in the QA the tayr ("bird") is less so.
